Netflix decision on Apple Vision Pro app and VR market evolution
Apple's highly anticipated Vision Pro headset has seen strong pre-order sales, estimated between 160,000 and 180,000 units, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. However, potential buyers hoping for a dedicated Netflix app on the device will face disappointment, as Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters has confirmed in an interview with Stratechery that there are currently no plans for such an application.
Peters explained that the decision is purely practical, driven by the current subscale user base of the headset, which doesn't justify the resources required for app development. He stated, "We have to be careful about making sure that we’re not investing in places that are not really yielding a return, and I would say we’ll see where things go with Vision Pro."
While this doesn't rule out a Netflix app for the Vision Pro in the future, Peters emphasized that, at present, the device is not particularly relevant to most of Netflix's members. The streaming giant seems to be adopting a wait-and-see approach, leaving the door open for potential development based on the evolution of the VR market.

Netflix is not alone in refraining from initial native Vision Pro apps; YouTube and Spotify have also chosen not to develop dedicated applications, although both platforms can be accessed through the headset's web browser.
In contrast, Apple's own streaming service, Apple TV+, is diving into the VR scene with the launch of "Apple Immersive Video," offering 180° 3D footage in 8K resolution with Spatial Audio.

Despite Netflix's experience in the VR space, having launched a VR app in 2015 and produced a 360° video based on "Stranger Things," it seems the Vision Pro won't be joining its platform anytime soon. However, the possibility of a future app remains on the table.
