Unveiling iOS 17.3: Security Boost and Collaborative Playlists Make a Comeback
Apple is moving forward with iOS 17.3, despite facing challenges in its beta release. The tech giant has released the third beta version, signaling its commitment to improvement and innovation.
Beta Testing Adventures:
Developers have been given access to the beta for testing purposes, offering a glimpse into upcoming iOS enhancements. To jump into the beta, users can go to the Settings app, select the Beta Updates option in the Software Updates section, and opt in. Note that an Apple ID is associated with a developer account to download and install the beta.

This release follows the second beta, which encountered a boot loop issue on installation. Apple has chosen to move forward with the third beta rather than update the second one, suggesting that the reported issue may have been resolved.
Security first:
iOS 17.3 is putting a major emphasis on security, introducing a novel feature called Stolen Device Protection. The purpose of this security layer is to protect users' phones even if the passcode is compromised. When activated, stolen device protection will require Face ID in addition to a passcode for some phone features.

Previously, a thief could wipe the phone with a passcode and bypass security measures. Stolen Device Protection tries to reduce this risk, increasing overall phone security. It is expected to build on additional patches introduced in the iOS 17.2 update, combating recent spyware attacks on iPhones.
Joint publication returns:
iOS 17.3 isn't just focused on security; It is also set to bring back the much-anticipated collaborative publication. Initially included in the first beta of iOS 17.2, it was temporarily removed due to potential abuse. Now, in the first beta of iOS 17.3, Apple Music users can edit, add, rearrange, or remove songs from a shared playlist.
These features aim to make music sharing more personal and communicative than other apps with similar functions. Specifically, users will have the ability to add emoji to the main viewer window, similar to popular messenger apps. Features also include reactions, allowing users to express themselves through small animations when the same song is played.
Release and Expectations:
The full release of iOS 17.3 is expected at the end of January, barring any unexpected bugs that could potentially delay the launch. As we await the official release, keep an eye out for more insight into the updated features once we've got our hands on the latest iOS iteration.
